We hugged at graduation, and it felt like we were saying goodbye to so much more than high school. She was my best friend for years, but I’d always felt something more. I wanted to tell her, to see if there was even a small chance she felt the same. But I couldn’t risk losing her to an unspoken ‘what if.’ I watched her walk away that day, knowing I’d probably never see her again.
